5 Fun Games to Play With Your Chihuahua

You know that Chihuahua’s are full of energy and love to play, but you are a little stuck for Games to Play with Your Chihuahua, there are many different games for a Chihuahua, but we have compiled the five best games for you here.

These games will keep your Chihuahua entertained and help them get some exercise at the same time, and a little training along the way, so it’s a win-win. Let’s get started!

Tug of War:

Chihuahuas love to play tug of war. This is a great game that you can play with your Chihuahua because it will help them build muscle and can also be a great game for helping to learn the “drop it or leave it” command.

When playing this game, it’s always best to use a rope toy or something soft (my dogs love an old sock) as they are easy on the mouth and won’t hurt your dog’s teeth.

Playing this game can help your dog get some exercise, and it is also a great way to bond with them.

Remember always to be gentle when playing this game, and you need to let them win some times too.

Fetch:

Chihuahuas also love to play fetch! This is a great game that you will both enjoy because it gets them moving and keeps their minds busy. All you need is a ball or toy that your Chihuahua can fit in their mouth and some room to run.

Throw the ball or toy away from you and let them go pick it up, then call them back to you; when they return with the toy, give lots of praise and occasional treats.

Fetch is a game that can be played indoors with limited space if needed, but it is always fun to play at the park or in the yard.

Top tip when your pup is learning to play fetch start of playing in a passageway (with all doors closed) with the only way out is towards you, so they can not run off in any direction with the toy; this will save you a bit of frustration chasing your pup around for the toy when they are learning. Ask me how I know!

Hide and Seek:

Hide and seek is another excellent game for Chihuahuas because it helps develop their tracking skills.

Start by hiding somewhere in your house (make sure it’s a place where your dog won’t get hurt, like behind a closed door), and then call out their name.

When they find you, give them lots of praise and treats!

Hide and seak is also great to play outdoors if you have a yard with many hiding places. We play this game all the time with my dogs, and they love it!

To make things a little easier at first, make sure you start off hiding in very easy to find places; if your pup is struggling, hide where they can see you but cant easily reach you.

Make sure that when your dog does find you give lots of praise.

Hide and seek also works on the recall skill too!

Puzzle Games:

Puzzle games are a great way to keep your Chihuahua’s mind active. You can buy or make many different types of puzzle games yourself, but my dogs love the simple ones made out of old cardboard boxes.

Just cut some holes in the side of a cardboard box and place treats inside, then watch your Chihuahua try to figure out how to get them out!

You can also make your own puzzle games by using empty tissue boxes and toilet paper rolls; the list is endless. Just be creative.

Another great thing about puzzle games is that you can make them as hard or easy as you want, depending on your dog’s level of intelligence.

Chihuahuas are very smart dogs and love a good challenge, so these types of games are perfect for them!

With the puzzle games and scent games, I teach my dog the “find it” command; it’s great to watch them spring into action when I say it!

Scent Games:

Scent games are another excellent way for Chihuahuas or any dog to develop their tracking skills. These can be as simple as hiding treats around the house or yard or even their favorite toys and letting your dog find them.

This game is enjoyable to play outdoors when you have many hiding places.

Conclusion

I love to play these games with my dogs; it’s great fun and fantastic for their mental stimulation and development. Games are an excellent way for us to bond too! You will see your dog blossom when you spend quality time playing with them in this way.

There you have it, the five best games to play with your Chihuahua! Be sure to try out all of these games and find your favorite ones. Have fun!
